Dr. Stephen Randall Filios

Stephen Filios, Ph.D. is the lead research scientist at FamilySearch International for handwriting recognition and document understanding. He holds a B.S. in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His current research interests include applying modern advances in self-supervised learning, neuro-symbolic systems, and other techniques to historical documents and genealogically relevant tasks.
