Supporting New Members on the Covenant Path
“Our sacred duty is to accept and welcome new and returning members. As the Lord hastens His work, we should love, nurture, and serve those who accept His gospel.”—Elder Quentin L. Cook, “The Lord Is Hastening His Work”

4 Steps for New Members After Baptism
Taking these four steps in the first week after baptism establishes the pathway to uniting families for eternity through temple ordinances and covenants.
1
The new member should be confirmed a member of the Church.
2
The new member should receive a temple recommend for proxy baptisms. If male, he should be ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood first.
3
Leaders use Family Name Assist to help members take a family name* to the house of the Lord.
4
The new member should be invited to worship in the house of the Lord with ward friends, as circumstances permit.
*Start with a known, deceased family member to eliminate the need for research or additional technology.
Ways to Continue Ministering
Leaders introduce the new member to a temple and family history consultant.
Temple and family history consultants assist the new member in adding what they know to FamilySearch, which will lead to new temple opportunities in Ordinances Ready.
Assist the new member to continue to go to the house of the Lord regularly, where possible, to worship God and perform ordinances for their ancestors.
