Georgia Genealogical Society and Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research

The Georgia Genealogical Society (GGS) is passionate about our mission to raise the bar on genealogical research in the state of Georgia. We are a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing resources to assist in the collection and preservation of historical records. We do this through offering educational programs, workshops, publications, and more. The Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) is an educational institute for genealogists. It differs from a genealogy conference in that attendees register for a course that allows them to delve into a specific topic or methodology more deeply than what a typical conference might allow. Courses are offered in two formats: full-time courses that run concurrently for a week during the last week of July and other courses offered once-a-week throughout the year. All courses are virtual.
