I’ve taken a DNA test, now what do I do?

You’ve taken a DNA test for genealogy—now what? This beginner-friendly class is for individuals who are new to family history research or have only a little experience. We’ll start by helping you clarify your goals: Are you exploring your ethnicity, searching for a biological family, or building your family tree? Next, we’ll discuss what an ethnicity estimate means—and what it doesn’t. You’ll learn how to navigate the beginner experience across different DNA testing providers and be introduced to their DNA tools. Finally, we’ll explore why DNA results and traditional genealogical records should support one another, and how to resolve conflicts when they don’t.
