      The Story of Rachel -- Eventually This Enslaved Woman & Her Children Were Freed

      Many enslaved sought to be manumitted, while many abolitionists and Quakers sought to “abolish” slavery. There was a success in eliminating the trans-Atlantic slave trade though most slaves were NOT freed until the Civil War in what is the United States. Some slaves were manumitted, and there are records to be found both about how they gained their freedom and those involved in trying to ensure their freedom. Let’s explore these invaluable records.
