Why is Hiroshima known as the “Emigration Prefecture"?

A discussion of the unique role that Hiroshima prefecture played in Japanese emigration, including a presentation of quantitative emigration statistics, as well as motivating factors specific to Hiroshima. Finally, a Hiroshima source of emigration information not available in other Japanese prefectures is presented.
