Program Manager at FamilySearch

Thom Reed

“Thom Reed serves as a Program Manager for FamilySearch International, supporting the United States Southeast Area, and as the African Heritage Experience Manager across the United States and Canada. In this role, he leads strategic initiatives that expand access to historical records and foster meaningful connections to family history, with a particular focus on African American and African diaspora communities.

Reed works closely with archives, genealogical societies, and community organizations to build partnerships that preserve and make historically underrepresented records more accessible. He is a member and former national board officer of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society, and since 2023, he has served on the Genealogists’ Council for 10 Million Names—an initiative led by American Ancestors to recover the identities of millions of enslaved individuals whose names were lost to history.”
