African American Genealogy: Our Ancestral Connections to the First Revolutionary Black Church in Hartford, Connecticut.
This presentation will focus on how onsite research and local newspapers were used to construct a historical narrative of the first Black congregational church in Connecticut: Hartford’s Talcott Street Church. The presenters will share their family connections to this church and contextualize the historical significance of the members’ accomplishments. These include abolitionists, educators, business owners and pastors who broke racial barriers.
