Australian Genealogy Online
Do you have ancestral relatives who went to Australia? Were they convicts, immigrants or seeking their fortune on the goldfields of colonial Australia. This session starts with free online births, deaths and marriages (subject to access conditions) then moves on to what is held in federal and state archives. Digitised records from these institutions are freely available on topics such as passenger lists, military records, wills and probates, criminal records, maps, land and other genealogy topics. Genealogy and family history societies also have a range of resources that may be useful (pay be behind a members wall) and the National Library website Trove has digitised newspapers online free. Australia is rich in free online resources for family history research and it is relatively easy to find relatives, providing you know where to look. Come to this session and find out.
