      The Society of the First African Families of English America Aids in Historical & Genealogical Research

      The Society of the First African Families of English America offers a powerful way to reclaim history, restoring family lineages, and connecting ancestors to the American story. The society provides knowledge and understanding of why the First African Families of English America were important, how they shaped American history, and how their contributions and that of their descendants helped to shape democratic principles around the world through educational programming and publications. The session provides participants with the tools, techniques, and historical contexts necessary to conduct genealogical and historical research focused on African American ancestry including: (a) oral histories; (b) getting started in family history; (c) African American genealogical research methodologies and best practices; (c) exploring historical records and archives; (d) preserving and organizing genealogical data; (e) tracing lineage and ancestral connections; and (f) collaboration and networking.
