Victorians to Elizabethans: British research in the twentieth century

Did your family live in Britain in the twentieth century? Are you interested in their story? We often neglect the twentieth century as being ‘not really history’; sometimes we don't research our more recent ancestors with the same vigor as earlier ones. Perhaps because we knew them in person, we don't seek them out in the documentary record. There is plenty to be discovered about individuals and the communities in which they lived, when investigating our more recent British family history. Twentieth century research brings with it the difficulties of larger and more mobile populations, as well as records that are closed to view but families can be traced and many records are available. This presentation introduces a range of resources that will help those with twentieth century British ancestry to bring their more recent ancestors to life.
