Azumah Nelson

With his fierce punches and vivacious courage, Azumah Nelson compelled millions around the world to search for Ghana on the World map. He represented the spirit of Ghana and gave hope to millions during the country’s dire moments in the late 70’s, 80’s and in the 90’s.

Both Local and International media described him as a humble, God-fearing Statesman with a ferocious and merciless instinct in the ring.

Azumah Nelson, born on 19th July 1958, is the first-born son of Emmanuel Teilo Nelson, a tailor and Madam Comfort Atswei Quarcoo, a trader in Timber Market, a suburb of Accra. Azumah discovered his God-given boxing talent at an early age and he worked hard to become the boxing legend celebrated all over the world today.

Apt sense of purpose, determination, can do spirit, humility and affability are amongst many characteristics that define the man crowned in December 2014 in Las Vegas by the WBC as the Greatest Superfeatherweight Boxer of All Time.

Azumah Nelson, affectionately called The Professor, has many accolades stemming from his impeccable, unrivaled and inspiring boxing record from amateur to professional. From obscurity to the summit of world fame and respect, Azumah embodies the spirit of resilience, sheer courage and commitment to winning ways.

Azumah Nelson, through the Azumah Nelson Foundation, supports many less-privileged youth through sports and education. The foundation has undertaken several projects in many communities including the construction of a 6-classroom block at Anum Apapam in the Eastern Region. He dreams of an ultra-modern sports academy on his 50-acre land at Akuse in the Eastern region.

He is also the founder of the Azumah Nelson Boxing Promotions, and the Brand Ambassador of GOIL.

He is married with six (6) children, two (2) boys and four (4) girls. He has an admirable relationship with his children.
