Dr. Sibel Karakoc

Dr. Sibel Karakoc is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies (CMENAS) at Binghamton University, where she also serves as a lecturer. Her research focuses on forced migration, population movements, and refugee settlements in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries within the Ottoman Empire and the broader Middle East. She examines how global economic factors influenced and shaped refugee populations and settlements. Additionally, Dr. Karakoc co-leads the Ottoman Demographic, Social, and Family History Research Group at SUNY Binghamton University, where she works on the transliteration and indexing of Ottoman Empire census records.
