How to Use Rare Disease Mutations to Find Relatives
ConnectMyVariant introduces people who have the same rare disease risk mutation, or pathogenic variant, to each other. Rare genetic variants provide a unique opportunity to build family trees. This class will show how to use that rare variant information to find shared ancestors. Combining rare variant information with AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, or GEDMATCH tools can sometimes be helpful, but can also lead to wrong turns. When more than two or three people share the same rare variant, genetic triangulation strategies may be useful. The class will be interesting for everyone and most useful for people who know about a specific inherited risk variant in their family.
