Learning to Use AI Tools: Taking Your Prompting Skills to the Next Level

This session is designed to enhance your understanding and application of generative AI in genealogical research. This class begins with a review of large language models, including popular tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. You will learn about the four basic transformations these models can perform: summarization, extraction, generation, and translation. A key part of the class is mastering the basic five-part genealogical prompt, which includes defining your role, goal, text, task, and flash elements. This framework will help you craft precise and effective prompts tailored to your genealogical needs. We will also explore the power of saved prompts, often referred to as "custom GPTs." You'll discover what saved prompts are, where to find them, and how to use, create, and share them. By the end of this class, you'll have the skills to leverage AI tools more effectively, improving your genealogical research and productivity. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your AI prompting skills, this session offers valuable insights and practical techniques for taking your work to the next level.
