Enjoying Italian Research Abroad

Start at home and online so you can spend your onsite time finding records not available elsewhere. Research on-site records including 1) civil records of birth, marriage and death only available in the town of birth, 2) interpretive sites/museums, 3) church registers for baptisms, marriages, and deaths, church censuses, many not available elsewhere, 4) cemetery records, 5) Military records, particularly since Italy has had mandatory military service for males since 1861. Use your results to share the stories with others through 1) reunions with other family members, 2) adding your findings to online family trees, and 3) visiting your ancestral towns so you can “walk where they walked and pray where they prayed”.
