FamilySearch Library Construction News

While we aim to remain open, there may be times when temporary closures are necessary for part or all of the library. If a closure is required, we will provide as much notice as possible, though in some cases this may be only one to two weeks in advance.

The following closures have been announced:

• The FamilySearch Library will open at 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. A scheduled complete power outage will affect the FamilySearch Library and the Church History Museum that morning between 8am and 12pm. To allow the planned outage and necessary repair work to take place and to ensure all systems are fully operational, the library will open at 1:00pm that day.
• The Main floor is not accessible except for the elevators, restrooms, and break room. All services will be moved to other floors.
• A limited Discovery experience is located on the 2nd floor. You can get Tree help on any floor. For more details please check the Discovery page.
  

•   Indoor Construction:
  
  •  Construction Noise levels will be ongoing. The Main Floor, B1 Floor, and 2nd Floor will be most affected.
  • The B2 Floor and the 3^rd Floor are expected to remain quieter and better suited for study and research.
•   External Demolition:
  
  • The Plaza Hotel next door will be demolished, which may add periods of increased outdoor noise throughout the day. Click here for other hotel options.

• Limited Street Parking: Due to construction activity fewer spaces will be available during different phases of construction.
• Alternative Parking: Visitors are encouraged to use the Conference Center parking lot, located nearby, to reduce congestion. With the updates to parking at the Conference Center, paper validation slips will no longer be given out to FSL guests. Starting on Thursday, April 23, guests will receive a paper ticket when entering the Conference Center parking garage. In order to validate these tickets, guests will need to go to Guest Services (in Memory Lane) and scan their ticket. After the ticket has been scanned, the system will allow the guests to leave the Conference Center by scanning the ticket at the exit. If the guests have not scanned their ticket at Guest Services, they will be required to pay for their parking.
• Accessibility: Entrances will remain open, but access routes such as road or sidewalks around the library may change as work progresses.

• Construction will take place from October 2025 thru February 2027 and will mainly happen on the Main Floor, B1 Floor, and 2nd Floor, as well as around the building exterior.
• Work will be phased, meaning different areas may be impacted at different times.
• Visitors should expect varying noise levels and temporary inconveniences until the project is complete.
