Purpose
Be part of the work behind the scenes that brings family discoveries to life. Using your language expertise and attention to detail you’ll help FamilySearch build the data behind powerful new technologies like enabling AI to learn to read and understand historical documents - unlocking family records and making it easier than ever before for people around the world to discover, gather, and connect their families.
- Current language talents needed: Armenian, Korean, Polish, Russian, German, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian
Responsibilities
- Use native level language skills to work with historical records and family history data, including deciphering handwritten documents
- Identify and label important terms in historical documents, and mark relationships between names, dates, places, and other key information
- Draw on digital images to outline and map specific elements within historical documents
- Show how a document should be read by mapping the order of its sections and lines, helping AI learn how people naturally navigate handwritten records
- Look at images of historical documents and identify key details about them - such as the type of record, language, and time period - to help organize and classify documents correctly
- Collaborate with a supportive team, follow guidelines, and participate in online meetings
Qualifications
Our missionaries are temple-worthy, serve from home using their own computer equipment, and have:
- Native level languages skills in any of the following languages: Armenian, Korean, Polish, Russian, German, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian
- Ability to read, decipher, and understand handwritten historical documents
- Fluency in English for training, instructions, and team communication
- Good computer skills, including web based tools, spreadsheets, email, and Microsoft Teams
- Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on careful, hands on work
- Ability to work independently and follow established processes, with openness to feedback and good interpersonal skills
- Good eyesight and fine motor skills for detailed on screen work
- Familiarity with genealogical records
- Training and ongoing support provided
